Duffield Arts Festival, 22 & 23 September 2018
We exhibited, as before, with Amber Painting group, at the Methodist Church hall in Duffield.
Ten members showed paintings at this event. We hung 30 pictures in total; together with a few unframed, plus Christine's and Daphne's crafts (and a few of mine) it looked very good. Visitors were interested in the paintings and expressed a lot of appreciation (no-one bought any though!!). The crafts, including Daphne's bears, were popular and quite a few sales were made. Not as many people were out and about in the village as last year though; we thought it would have been better if the scarecrow trail had been held on the same weekend, as happened the previous two years. There were plenty of activities in Ecclesbourne school but not much elsewhere.
The occasion was Amber group's annual Trophy exhibition, the winner and runner-up being decided by visitors' votes. We also invited visitors to vote separately for our pictures:
The clear winner was Bridget Gould, with delicate portrait ‘Matilda’
Second came Jannice with a finely detailed ‘Lapwing and chicks’
Third was Carolyn’s painting ‘Loch Achray’
Joint fourth Carolyn again with ‘Lindisfarne’ and Deborah’s semi abstract ‘Into the woods’
No trophy for our winner, just a box of chocolates.
Several members gave invaluable help with the event, we made a good team between us. The impromptu 'hanging committee' did a great job on Friday evening. And thank you to Bill and Alan Leak for doing the heavy lifting, and to Christine for helping on Friday afternoon and virtually all the weekend; Daphne too, and Deborah helped with stewarding. And to John Shoesmith of Amber group, who transported the screens to and from Duffield, invaluable help.
